How we detect HubSpot Enterprise users

We believe in being transparent about how we collect our data and what its limitations are, unlike most other data providers who operate as black boxes.

HubSpot's Custom Events feature is gated to Enterprise plans. When a company sets up Custom Events through HubSpot's built-in UI tools, HubSpot automatically injects those event definitions into a publicly served per-portal tracking script at js.hs-analytics.net/analytics/{timestamp}/{portalId}.js. The injected definitions follow a predictable format: pe{portalId}_{eventname}. We fetch that script for each of the roughly 3 million domains we track and scan for this pattern. A match means the company is on an Enterprise HubSpot plan and has actively configured Custom Events through HubSpot's UI.

A few important caveats. We will miss companies that implement Custom Events via the API, GTM, or hand-rolled JavaScript, since those methods never touch the tracking script. We will also miss Enterprise portals that simply haven't set up any Custom Events yet. And while this signal reliably identifies Enterprise tier, it cannot tell you which Hub the company subscribes to. The pattern appears the same whether it comes from Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, or any other product line.
